Independent Shop of the Year

DSC00368 (1)

Independent Shop of the Year is championed by Paul Scully to reward the hard work of local independent business owners, and to give customers an opportunity to support their favourite shops. Having grown his own company from scratch, Paul works hard to support business owners around Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park, and the competition is a fun way to recognise shops that go the extra mile. Some people feel Sutton has lost out to the bigger shops outside Croydon – let’s celebrate the special range of shops in Sutton.

It’s fantastic to see such a range of businesses getting support from their local community. Below are the shops that have come out on top!

Independent Shop of the Year 2014
1. Precision Chiropractic in Cheam
2. Cheam Sports in Cheam
3. Blue Chip Board Store in Cheam

Independent Shop of the Year 2013
1. Precision Chiropractic in Cheam
2. Woodward Brothers Butchers in Worcester Park
3. John Fraser Jenkins. Hair Salon in Cheam
4. Alan Greenwood & Sons. A family-run Funeral Directors in North Cheam

About the Awards

SUTTON SURREY, HIGH STREETHigh streets across the country are changing. Stiff competition from supermarkets and large chains has led to a number of small businesses sadly closing. We must do our bit to support local pubs and shops by emphasising the choice on offer just around the corner for most people.

These awards celebrate the best of what Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park has to offer, promoting those small businesses that know the value of building relationships with customers to deliver top notch service. For the shops, it is an opportunity to showcase themselves and shine among their competitors. For pub goers it is a chance to get their local the recognition it deserves – and be in with a chance of winning £100 behind the bar. Many of these businesses have been established for generations, and have kept their loyal customers coming back time and again.

The award is supported by Paul Scully, Member of Parliament for Sutton & Cheam. Paul has nurtured a small business for over twenty years and is committed to making sure our High Streets and shopping areas thrive. Politicians have a role in keeping taxes and rates low and ensuring that there are enough car parking spaces for shoppers, but it is businesses themselves that shape the character of our High Streets that will attract people from further afield.

The more people I have seen and spoken to, the more I realise that there is a massive appetite out there among those willing to get their hands dirty and to fight for their high streets.
